Dear Member, Student Member and Friends of the Accountancy Profession,

Accountants Care Campaign:
A Tribute to Frontline Healthcare and Support Workers

Over the last two months, our social and working life has been threatened by the outbreak of Atypical Pneumonia. While we suffer business losses and personal inconvenience, we are very much aware that healthcare professionals, frontline cleansing staff, and community care workers are risking their lives to save patients and to help keep the high-risk premises free of virus attack. Their selfless commitment to our community is truly exemplary.

The accountancy profession would like to play a part in contributing to the efforts to contain this disease and to pay tribute to those who are directly involved for their selfless work. We have, therefore, launched the Accountants Care Campaign in cooperation with CPA Australia and ACCA Hong Kong..

Last week, the Institute and ACCA Hong Kong have jointly contributed $300,000 to the anti-viral drink project of the Institute of Chinese Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong for some 3,000 frontline medical workers in public hospitals ( click here for Chinese press release). A further donation of $100,000 will be made to the Red Cross for the purchase of protective packs for carers of elderly people (click here for English and Chinese press releases).

Additionally, the Institute, CPA Australia and ACCA Hong Kong have each resolved to call on their respective members and student members in Hong Kong, as well as anyone else who would like to donate, to join in the Accountants Care Campaign.

Any donation, however small, will be very welcome. We hope to use the donations received to help fund projects that would protect frontline healthcare and support workers and assist people in need.

We have set up a charitable fund account to which donations can be made. The Institute will issue official receipts to those who contribute $100 or more for record and tax purposes. Our account details are as follows –

Citic Ka Wah Bank Account No. 744-1-01342900

Crossed checks made payable to the "Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants Charitable
Fund" can be sent by mail, together with the donation form, to –

The HKICPA Charitable Fund
Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants,
27/F., Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East,
Wanchai, Hong Kong

You can also authorise payment by credit card (please click here).

It will be very helpful if you can let us have your contributions by Saturday, 24 May 2003.

We look forward to your support in this Campaign.

With very best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

LEE KAI-FAT
