  The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (the "HKICPA") has created this privacy statement to demonstrate the HKICPA's firm commitment to the privacy of any personal data we hold and the principles and obligations set out in the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.  
   
  Our Privacy Policy  
     
  When the HKICPA collect information from you, it is our policy to meet fully the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance which regulates the treatment of personal data. Personal data is any information relating to any living individual from which it is possible to identify that individual. In dealing with personal data, we will ensure compliance by our staff with the standards of security and confidentiality prescribed by law.  
     
  This Statement explains our practice in relation to the collection, retention, storage and sharing of personal data.

  Collection of Personal Information  
     
  The HKICPA will occasionally collect personal data from you which will be processed for the specific purpose which will be given at the time or for any purpose stated in this Privacy Policy Statement. Such purposes may include fulfillment of your specific requests or applications relating to our services, the processing of your complaints, enquiries or feedback, or the collection of information in connection with the use of forums or discussion groups maintained by the HKICPA. The provision of personal data or any information is voluntary, however, any failure to supply all information requested by the HKICPA may result in our being unable to process your requests fully or at all.  
     
  In addition to any specific purpose, where personal data is provided by you, the HKICPA may occasionally use such data to send you materials regarding our services. At the time of collection of the personal data you will be given the option to opt-out from receiving such materials. You may also change your preference with regard to such materials at any time by sending e-mail to us at hkicpa@hkicpa.org.hk.  
     
  The HKICPA may record your Internet Protocol (IP) address when you visit any of our sites and/or servers. The HKICPA website(s) archives web server log files in order to create aggregate statistical reports on the usage of our websites and may also be disclosed by the HKICPA in the case of any unlawful user of our websites.  
     
  You may be asked to provide personal information to the HKICPA, including, but not limited to:

  The HKICPA requests this personal information for purposes of verification and keeping records of your identity, correspondence with you relating to the services we provide, or for conducting any specific HKICPA business which you have requested or to which you have agreed.  
     
  Some of this information or occasionally, some personal data may be gathered through the use of "cookies". Cookies are small bits of information that are automatically stored by a website on a person's web browser in their computer that can be retrieved by that website. If we use cookies to collect your personal data, we will inform you of such use at the relevant time. Should you wish to disable these cookies you may do so by changing the setting on your browser, however, doing so may cause some of our web pages to display incorrectly or not at all.

  Security  
     
  When collecting personal data over the Internet, the HKICPA will use such secured encryption systems as are appropriate to the nature of the data being collected.  
     
  Where personal data is stored electronically, it will be kept in a password-protected form. Personal data, whether stored in electronic form on computers or in hard-copy form will be accessible only by authorised officers or employees of the HKICPA. Persons designated by the HKICPA to handle personal data will be made acquainted with this Privacy Policy Statement and told how to fulfil our obligations to you.  
     
  Any personal data the HKICPA receive from you will not be disclosed by the HKICPA to any party outside the HKICPA except as provided herein, as notified to you at the time of collection, or with your prior consent.

  This Privacy Policy Statement only applies to the HKICPA. If you click on a hyperlink taking you from our website to another website the HKICPA shall not be responsible for the privacy and security practices or the content of such website and you should refer to the privacy policy of each website you enter.

  Disclosure and Sharing of Personal Information  
     
  Personal data held by the HKICPA will be kept confidential but the HKICPA may provide such information to:

any personnel, agent, adviser, auditor, contractor or service provider who provides services or advice to us or our members in connection with our operations;

any person under a duty of confidentiality to us; or,
 
     
 
l
any person to whom we are required to make disclosure under any law applicable in or outside Hong Kong.
 
     
  You should note that as the HKICPA have no control over the acts of any third party, the privacy protection stated in this Privacy Policy Statement ceases to apply to any information which has been disclosed to a third party in accordance with our policy. The HKICPA endeavour to deal only with responsible third parties but assume no responsibility for the privacy protection provided by such third parties.

  Personal information you provide to the HKICPA will be retained only for such period as may be necessary for the carrying out of the purposes referred to in this Privacy Policy Statement or as otherwise specified at the time of collection.
